"My father used to say he wished he'd run away when he was young and had no wife and children."
I chose this passage because I thought it was very tragic that his father would cast such strong words of hatred against them. It was so disheartening that Pask ran away from home because of his verbal abuse and physical abuse from his Father and landlord.
"She let me stay till the weather thawed. I kept out of sight as best I could. From time to time she gave me something to eat."
I chose this passage because it shows the girl's kindness to a random peasant stranger. That she didn't care what status a person was but she would help those in need. She reflects Jesus' image as she is kind and cares for others.
"He's alone in the world, and I know that he's often been lonely."
I chose this because I think that this is something that makes Piers who he is. Maud doesn't seem to like him, and Mariot seems to feel sorry. However, if Mariot were to befriend him, Maud would laugh. Piers is also said to never talk at dinner. This may be because he is shy, and I think that Maud is being very judgmental. He is said to be lousy, but it is also likely Maud is too. I think this passage is to make us feel empathy for Piers.
Hello!! We are trying something different! I will be looking for original posts and comments as we continue our Literature Circles on the Medieval Ages.
